The oil filter

…While writing the stories of my time at sea, completed with photos, all sorts of moments came up to me that should be told, anecdotes or rather: strong stories, like this one….

From my ‘memorial’.

Just aboard the ‘Utrecht’ a greaser taught me how to clean an oil filter and stressed that I had to do every watch.

That wasn’t that difficult: transfer, deventilate, open, cleaning, drain, set back and deventilate again.
At that time I was still lazy and thought I would skip a turn, walk off the edges.
Unfortunately, I could get out of my cage and still do the filter.

Discipline, I still had to learn it and it never happened to me again.
